Introduce "new" things SLOWLY.

Bath Time...

I remember the first bath we gave Ellie. I hated it, she hated it, everything about it was awful! She barely fit into her new tub and I wished I could have grown a 3rd hand, since I refused to take one hand off of her while the other hand, using the baby facecloth, attempted to "get into EVERY crevice" as the crazy bathing nurse at the hospital taught us; all the while my poor Ellie was in hysterics.  Believe it or not, this tub situation only lasted about 10 seconds! haha! That's all we both could handle. Not even quite sure if we could call that a bath...

I considered not bathing her...I mean, how dirty can a new baby REALLY get?! After that short lived idea, I took a step back from the situation and thought about it from a new baby's perspective: BRAND NEW THING HAPPENING HERE! My nervousness to make sure she was comfortable and not upset was probably alarming to her!  The way I RUSHED through the bath, not making ANY aspect of it calming and/or enjoyable.

At the next bath (which I also made sure was after she ate and not too close to bed time), I slowed things down, sang a peaceful lullaby, and calmly stroked her body with the soft washcloth. MUCH BETTER.
Now at 9 months old, bath time is an enjoyable experience! She LOVES playing in the water!
